As a local, I’ve put together this itinerary featuring some of my favorite spots in Kansas City—places that capture the city’s charm, romance, and vibrant culture. Whether it’s strolling through scenic parks, indulging in the city’s best dining, or enjoying live jazz in an intimate setting, this weekend getaway blends relaxation, adventure, and romance for an unforgettable summer trip.
Friday: Arrival & Cozy Evening

Afternoon:
- Check-in at The Raphael Hotel or The Fontaine—two of KC’s best boutique hotels, offering a perfect mix of charm and luxury.
- Freshen up and relax at the hotel before heading out. Enjoy a drink at the hotel bar or take a short walk around the nearby area to get a feel for the city.
Evening:

- Dinner at The Parlor in the Crossroads – When food court meets industrial romance, as well as a bar patio that overlooks the streets. Try a variety of cuisines from local chefs in this eclectic setting.
- Drinks & Live Jazz at Green Lady Lounge – A cozy, intimate jazz club that embodies KC’s rich musical history within walking distance from The Parlor. There is occasionally a $10 cover, but the ambiance and music make it worth it. Enjoy handcrafted cocktails while listening to smooth jazz.
Saturday: Exploring & Romance
Morning:
- Breakfast at The Classic Cup Café – A charming spot on the Country Club Plaza with great patio seating and a relaxed vibe. Enjoy their signature breakfast options, from fluffy pancakes to savory eggs benedict.

- Walk through Loose Park & Rose Garden – One of KC’s most beautiful parks, perfect for a peaceful, romantic stroll. Take time to admire the vibrant rose garden and possibly set up a small picnic.
Afternoon:

- Visit the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art – This world-class museum is one of my favorite places to explore, with its iconic shuttlecock sculptures and stunning exhibits. If time allows, grab a picnic blanket and hang out on the lawn. You will see others flying kites, having picnics, and playing yard games.

- Lunch at Gram & Dun – A stylish, upscale eatery on the Plaza with excellent modern American dishes. Their patio seating provides a relaxing atmosphere with great people-watching opportunities.
Evening:

- Romantic Rooftop Drinks at Percheron (Crossroads Hotel) – Enjoy breathtaking city views from one of my go-to rooftop bars. Order a signature cocktail and take in the skyline as the sun sets.

- KC Live! – Spend the evening walking around the Power and Light District. Many places to eat, drink, dance, and play games. Choose from live music venues, dance clubs, or intimate speakeasies for a night of fun.
Sunday: Relax & Farewell
Morning:
- Brunch at Café Sebastienne – A hidden gem inside the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, perfect for art lovers and foodies alike. Their fresh, locally-sourced menu pairs well with the surrounding contemporary art exhibits.
- Explore the River Market – Strolling through the market, grabbing coffee at The Opera House, and people-watching is one of my favorite Sunday morning traditions. Consider stopping at a local bakery or international grocery store to pick up some unique treats.
Afternoon:
- Couples Spa at The Spa at Briarcliff – Unwind with a relaxing massage before heading home. Choose from a variety of treatments designed to rejuvenate and refresh.

- Late Lunch at Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que – No KC trip is complete without its legendary barbecue! Try their iconic Z-Man sandwich or burnt ends, and savor one last taste of Kansas City before heading out.
